direct to dvd digital formats explained

There are 2 main ways to create a DVD, one is to create MPEG-2 files of your edited footage
and embed the files along with menu pages into an authored DVD
very much like the DVD’s you purchase on the high street.

The 2nd option is a “direct to DVD” encoding process which creates VOB files on the disc.
This encoding works very much like the VHS recording process, you feed a video signal into a
DVD recorder and hit record, you can record until the disc is full and once finalised
you have a completed DVD disc.

So if your requirement is simply to run a like for like copy from a supplied master to DVD without
the need for menu pages then “direct to DVD” might be your preferred option.
